National award winner Lyricist Na Muthukumar passes away

Two-time national award winning lyricist Na. Muthukumar passed away in Chennai on Sunday. He was 41 and is survived by his wife, a son and a daughter.

Muthukumar had been suffering from jaundice and high fever for the past few days. Known in the film industry as ‘Kavi Ilavarasan’, Muthukumar had won the national award for his lyrics for the songs “Aanandha Yazhai Meetugiraai” in in the film “Thanga Meenkal” and “Azhage Azhage Ethuvum Azhage” in “Saivam.”

He has written novel “Silk City” and also written dialogs for Kireedam film. Apart from these he has written lyrics for Kaadhal Kondein,” “Ghilli,” “Chandramukhi,” “Vaaranam Aayiram” and “Theri.”  He has won national awards for the songs “Aanandha Yazhai Meetugiraai” in in the film “Thanga Meenkal” and “Azhage Azhage Ethuvum Azhage” in “Saivam.”

Na Muthukumar was a rising star in the Tamil film industry. His premature death has robbed the industry of a formidable talent who could have contributed much more in the future.
