BMW 5 series is launched in India. The latest BMW offering will be produced at the company’s Chennai-based manufacturing facility which is also expected to keep the price tag of the car competitive.

Price of BMW 5 series: The starting price is Rs 49.90 lakh for the 530i Sportline variant. The base diesel 520d Sportline variant is also priced the same. The 520d LuxuryLine variant is priced at Rs 53.60 lakh and the top-spec 530d M Sport variant is priced at Rs 61.30 lakh.

The BMW 5 Series will be available in petrol and diesel variants across all dealerships in India and deliveries of the vehicle will begin after GST implementation from July 2017.

Features of BMW 5 series:

  • The new BMW 5-Series will come with two 10-inch display screens at the back for rear seat passengers. It also gets a larger heads up display.
  • To come with remote park key, gesture control, wireless charging.
  • The seventh generation of the BMW 5-Series weighs 70 kilogram less as compared to the outgoing model. The boot capacity has increased to 400 litre and the car is also bigger in dimensions as compared to the previous generation.
  • The BMW 5 Series will be available with three design schemes called – Sport, Luxury and M-Sport. The Sport is focused on the driving experience while the Luxury focuses on those who prefer luxury over everything else. The M-Sport, made by the performance arm of the BMW Group called M-Division, is a complete performance-oriented offering.

BMW Group has invested 12.5 Billion INR in India. Out of which 5.2 Billion INR is for BMW India and 7.3 Billion INR for the financial services. BMW India currently has 41 sales outlet throughout the country and aims to increase it to 50 by 2018, with eyes on metropolitan cities and emerging markets. BMW has sold over 66,000 units in India till now. Out of these, the single largest selling model has been the 5-Series, which has accounted for over 19,000 units, which is nearly 30 percent of their total sales. BMW India’s Chennai plant currently produces eight car models. The company also offers eight niche models including the M Performance cars and the i8 hybrid.
