Pehredaar Piya Ki writer-producer REACTS to controversy around the suhaag-raat scene

EXCLUSIVE! Pehredaar Piya Ki writer-producer REACTS to the ongoing controversy around the suhaag-raat scene

When the first promo of Pehredar Piya Ki  came out, people were equally repulsed and intrigued about the love story of a 10-year-old prince and Diya, his protector. Other than the ‘novel’ concept, people were also awaiting the comeback of Tejasswi Prakash after her hit show, Swaragini. Unlike the earlier show, where she was damn convincing as the grey-shaded Ragini, this role was touted as heroic one, where she was the protector. However, the concept of child marriage invited outrage on Twitter. Even actor Karan Wahi spoke about against it. The lead actress and cast has defended the show saying that people are judging a book by its cover.

Now, there is a complaint filed to the Broadcasting Content Complaints Council, where people have requested that the show gets banned. The official statement reads: “The I&B ministry has written to the BCCC (the self regulatory mechanism for GEC content) – to take up the matter since citizens have petitioned and there is an outcry across from media. The BCCC has to take cognisance and respond and take action– since close sources say the Govt has Sent a letter to this effect to the BCCC today for immediate and prompt action. Especially since the show has a suhaagraat sequence between a grown up woman and a small boy.The I&B ministry has specifically written to the BCCC to immediately take this up and respond on priority.”

Bollywood Life got in touch with Shashi Mittal who said, “Sorry, I would not like to comment on this right now. We will definitely put our point across but in a while.” She is the writer and producer of the show. Talking about TRPs, Pehredaar Piya Ki got 0.8 points last week and is one of the highest rated shows for Sony TV. Stay tuned to Bollywood Life for more scoop and updates….
