A police officer was shot dead in a shooting incident at Texas Tech University Police Department in Lubbock early morning on Tuesday (IST), according to news agency Associated Press. In a statement, University spokesperson Chris Cook said that the campus police made a student welfare check on Monday evening and found evidence of drugs and drug paraphernalia in a room. He added that the officers brought the suspect to campus police station for standard debriefing when the suspect pulled out a gun and shot the officer in the head.

The suspect, who identified as 19-year old Hollis Daniels, by the University officials, apprehended by the police officials, the University’s official twitter account said. It further added that the lockdown, which placed earlier on the campus, has lifted. The tweet further advised residents of the campus to “Avoid TTUPD, north side of campus”.

 

Daniels, earlier had fled the crime scene on foot after shooting the officer. Tactical squad officials assisted Lubbock Police Department and SWAT Team in their search for the suspect, according to reports.


Earlier, a tweet posted by the university’s official account advised caution to the residents. The campus has put on lockdown, the tweet said. It had further asked the residents of the campus “to take shelter in a safe location”.
