Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan on Wednesday asked Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and Lower House member Bhagwant Mann to stay away from the House till the probe against him for videographing Parliament’s security positions and uploading it to Facebook was complete and a decision taken.
She has granted two more weeks to the Lok Sabha panel probing the issue. The decision followed a request from panel chairman Kirit Somaiya seeking more time as more witnesses needed to be examined and certain critical issues probed in depth. Somaiya has submitted that in view of the gravity of the matter, the unanimous view among members of the committee was that for doing justice to the panel’s remit, it needed some more time, the Speaker said.
Mann, meanwhile, has apologised more than once for the video-upload episode, and given various reasons for putting it on social media. One of the initial reasons was that he had meant to shoot an educational video.
