The Supreme Court will on Monday hear the Bihar Government’s plea against the Patna High Court order granting bail to expelled Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Rajballabh Yadav in connection with a rape case.
The apex court had on October 7 refused to stay the Patna High Court order granting bail to Yadav.
On September 30, Yadav was granted bail in the case.
The Bihar MLA, who allegedly raped a minor girl at his Biharsharif residence on February 6, was in April named as one of the main accused in the chargesheet filed by the Nalanda Police.
The chargesheet also contained the names of a woman – Sulekha Devi – and her relatives, who were accused of supplying girls to the RJD legislator.
Yadav, who had been evading arrest for a month after he was named in the FIR, appeared before a local court in March. He surrendered fearing that many of his properties might be confiscated.
The RJD suspended him on February 14, just a day after his arrest order was issued.
