The makers of the film Victoria and Abdul released its official trailer on May 30. The movie marks the international debut of Ali Fazal opposite Judi Dench.
Victoria and Abdul attempts to bring to light the unlikely and inexplicable bond of friendship between Queen Victoria (played by Judi Dench) and her servant Abdul Karim (played by Ali Fazal) which is beyond the comprehension of the Queen’s inner circle. The trailer begins by giving us glimpses of how tiring it is for the Queen to rule over almost a billion citizens at the age of 81 years.
Things take an unexpected turn as Abdul is sent England to present the ceremonial coin to the Queen as part of the Queens Golden Jubilee. The only thing he is told not to do is to look at “her majesty” and Abdul does exactly that. He looks the queen straight in her eyes and that forms the first step towards an unexplainable bond between the two.
We witness a new side of the longest reigning monarch of England, the vulnerable and helpless Queen who finds a new perspective to look at things through the eyes of Abdul. This obviously doesn’t go down well with her son and her inner circle who are bent on destroying the unique friendship between the Queen and the servant.
The trailer looks pretty interesting and intrigues us to look forward to the film and witness how their journey unfolds further. Directed by Stephen Frears, the movie is slated to hit the theatres on September 22.
