Amazon planning to bring its range of smart devices to the Indian shores and now, a report from Gadgets360 claims that Amazon is prepping the most affordable AI speaker in their portfolio — the Echo Dot, in India. Not only that, the e-commerce giant is also planning to bring the ‘Prime Music Service’ to India as well.
The device has reportedly been under test in India for about a month and will be available for sale in India soon. The Echo Dot will come preloaded with all the apps from the Amazon ecosystem but will be tailored for India. The reason it needs to be customised for India is that most of third-party apps and services that the Echo is compatible with are not supported or available in India.
Therefore, the Indian Echo will come with Prime Music and Gaana music streaming services. The Gaana app is already available on the Amazon Fire TV Stick (review), which was launched earlier this year. Analysts have also been predicting the price of the Echo speaker — some have been pointing at a Rs 5000 – Rs 6000 range whereas others have also indicated at a sub-Rs 3000 price tag as the device is available for around $50 in the US.
The report also claims that the Echo Dot will be the only smart speaker to launch in India. The bigger Echo won’t be visiting the Indian shores anytime soon. However, this is still a rumour, therefore we should take it with a grain of salt.
