Arvind Panagariya has resigned as the vice-chairman of the Niti Aayog.
Panagariya said he will return to academics in US and August 31 will be his last day in office. Panagariya, an Indian-American economist and professor of economics at Columbia University, was named Niti Aayog vice-chairman in January 2015. He was the first vice-chairman of the Niti Aayog.
Panagariya has earlier been the chief economist of the Asian Development Bank and a professor of economics and co-director, Center for International Economics, University of Maryland at College Park.
