Road accident:
Four persons including two students were killed and 31 others injured when a passenger mini-bus overturned in Samba district this morning.
As per sources, a rashly driven, overloaded mini-bus bearing registration number JK08A – 4547 was coming to Samba town from border Chachwal area.
“Around 8.20 a.m the speedy bus turned turtle near Rakha Ambpatti area, resulting in instant killing of three people including two students and grievous injuries to 32 other travelers,” police said.
Another injured succumbed to his injuries later.
Senior superintendent of police Samba, Anil Mangotra, said the injured were shifted to a hospital where their condition was stated to be stable.
The persons killed in accident were identified as students Mehak Singh (19) daughter of Kali Singh and Janu Singh (17) son of Balbir Singh; Prem Kumar (38) son of N N Kumar resident of Sarthian and Ramesh Chand (55) son of Naseeb Chand resident of Saquib Khurd Samba.
Jammu Pathankot Highway
The news of the accident spread like wild fire in border town and people started assembling on Jammu Pathankot Highway.
Demanding stern action against authorities for not checking menace of overloading, particularly in rural pockets, the locals burnt tyres and blocked traffic movement on busy Jammu-Pathankot Highway. The protesters were pacified by DC Samba and SSP Samba who assured stern action.
MLA Samba:
Later unidentified persons attacked MLA Samba Divinder Kumar Manayal in which the BJP leader was severely injured.
Sources said that the incident took place near a cremation ground in Samba where the MLA went to pay homage to one of the victims killed in the accident.
“As MLA’s convoy came near, people attacked it with stones in which the official vehicle was damaged and BJP MLA also received several injuries,” sources informed.
The personal security officers deployed with the MLA rescued him; after getting first aid at emergency hospital Samba, the MLA was referred to Government Medical College and Hospital for specialized treatment.
CHIEF MINISTER GRIEVED:
Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti has expressed grief over the death of four persons in the road accident in Samba.
Mehbooba Mufti has conveyed her sympathies to the families who lost their members in the accident.
