Sheena Bora murder accused-turned approver Shyamvar Rai today deposed in a Mumbai court, formally identifying the Indrani Mukerjea, Peter Mukerjea and Sanjeev Khanna, all three accused of whom are accused of murdering the then 25-year-old girl in 2012.

Sheena was the daughter of Indrani and Peter and the step-daughter of Sanjeev Khanna. The case came into the limelight in 2015, after Mumbai Police arrested Indrani.

On Tuesday, driver Shaymvar Rai, who has confessed to helping Indrani kill Sheena and earlier revealed chilling details of the murder plot, made eye contact with the Mukerjeas for the first time in the all the time the case has been heard in court.

Asked to officially identify the accused, Rai said, “Wo Indrani madam hai, wo Sanjeev Khanna aur wo Peter sahab (That’s Indrani madam, that’s Sanjeev Khanna and that’s Peter sir)”, pointing at the three. Rai, who until today had avoided even looking at the three, even returned the smile that Indrani flashed at him.

Rai then went on to reveal more details of the plot to murder Sheena Bora and the unsuccessful attempt to kill her brother Mikhail. Rai’s testimony from today largely dealt with what happened after the Sheena was murdered.

WHAT RAI TOLD THE COURT TODAY

1. During the course of trial today, Rai told the court that how after helping Indrani and Sanjeev throttle Sheena and dispose her body in Maharashtra’s Pen district, he resumed his duty at the Marlow bungalow, the building were the Mukerjeas lived.
2. Rai mentioned that after Sheena’s body was disposed off, Peter came to Mumbai and stayed at Marlow, along with his son and Sheena’s fiance, Rahul. Indrani, during this time, was in Kolkata. A few days later, Peter and Indrani left India.
3. Rai then testified about Indrani calling him from outside the country and asking him to deliver a letter to Sheena’s landlord in Andheri which he did. Rai recognised the letter in court when it was shown by the prosecution.
4. Rai also identified one of the two bags allegedly bought by Indrani to dispose of the bodies of Sheena and Mikhail. The one meant for Sheena was used by Indrani to stuff her body. The bag with Sheena’s body in it was burnt in Pen. The second bag, which went unused after the attempt to kill Mikhail was unsuccessful, was given to the house help at Marlow. Rai identified this bag in court today. Rai also identified three pairs of shoes that Indrani had bought to use during the trip to dispose of Indrani’s body.
5. Rai then testified that a while after Peter and Indrani left India, Indrani called him to tell him that his services were no longer required as they did not intend to return to India. Rai said he was given three months’ salary and was asked to dispose the country-made pistol that Indrani had handed over to him. It was while disposing of the pistol that Mumbai Police arrested Rai and stumbled upon the murder mystery.
6. Following his testimony, Shyamvar Rai asked for security saying he feels that his life is in danger. The Central Bureau of Investigation too moved an application in this regard. The court ordered authorities to provide utmost security to Rai. Rai will be back on the stand on Friday when the advocates representing the accused will cross examine him.
