Vivegam box office : Thala fans are celebrating the release of their matinee idol’s new movie, Vivegam, which came in theatres last Friday. The movie is breaking all kids of records, though the actual numbers are very fuzzy though due various unconfirmed declarations. Now the latest buzz about the movie’s box office is that the movie has grossed more than Rs 100 crore. Industry tracker Ramesh Bala had tweeted that the movie has grossed Rs 106 crore. This figure is based on Vivegam’s worldwide collections.
Bala had tweeted, “#Vivegam 1st Weekend (Aug 24th – 27th) WW BO: #India – Rs 69.50 Cr Overseas – Rs 36.50 Cr Total – Rs 106 Cr A Non-Rajini/Shankar Record!” Going by the collections, Ajith is having back to blockbusters with Yennai Arindhaal, Vedhalam and Vivegam all hitting the bullseye at the box office. However, we have to say that while the movie may have grossed more than Rs 100 crore at the box office, it is still unsure that it has been a profitable venture for the makers. For one, the budget of the movie has been higher, and secondly, the movie has seen in a drop in the collections from Monday onwards. After All, Rs 100 crore doesn’t mean a hit movie; ask Salman Khan whose Tubelight also grossed more than Rs 100 crore and yet underperformed profit-wise.
Vivegam is Siva and Ajith’s third movie after Veeram and Vedhalam. This time, the Tamil star went in for a stylish makeover for this high octane actioner. He worked extensively on his physique and took on a lean, mean avatar. As the film was shot in exotic locales across Europe, the movie was lent an international appeal. The movie also stars Kajal Aggarwal, Akshara Haasan and Vivek Oberoi (making his Tamil debut here). The music composed by Anirudh Ravichander.
