Rahul Gandhi address at UC Berkeley: The Congress Vice President today launched a scathing attack on the Narenedra Modi government by raking up issues like demonetisation, alleged violence and lynching and economic state of the country. Gandhi said this while addressing students of the prestigious University of California, Berkley on ‘India at 70: Reflections on the Path Forward’. Gandhi said that idea of non violence or ‘ahimsa’ has allowed people of India to rise together but it is under attack today. “Hatred,anger and violence can destroy us, the politics of polarization very dangerous,” he said.

Modi’s demonetisation decision

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s demonetisation decision for causing ‘tremendous damage’, Rahul said it taken without asking the Chief Economic Advisor and Parliament. Lashing out at ruling BJP at Centre, Rahul said the central government has borrowed ideas from Congress as it has been finishing projects like the GST, MGNREGA. Rahul said unlike China, India has to create jobs in a democratic environment.

Rahul Gandhi yesterday began his two-week visit to the US during which he will interact with global thinkers and political leaders, and address overseas Indians as part of an outreach initiative by his party.

A day before the event, the University announced that the event venue has reached its maximum capacity and registration has  closed. Gandhi, 47, was received at the San Francisco airport by senior Congress leader Sam Pitroda and Shudh Singh, the president of Indian National Overseas Congress (INOC), US.
