Pokémon GO: Social media chatter will decide where the game goes next

Pokémon GO

Pokémon GO has captured the world’s imagination like no other game has in recent times. And as expected it is also getting a lot of media attention and coverage since its launch on July 6.

While the game has not yet been launched in India, there is still a lot of craze around the game in the country. “There have been more than 53,000 conversations on Pokémon GO from the country. Based on how India Inc. is jumping in to participate in the chitter-chatter on Pokémon GO we foresee companies can quickly identify popular Pokémon GO characters and create products,” explains Nitin Bhatia, Director Agency Partnerships at Meltwater India.

The game encourages physical activity, which is consistently proven to be excellent for a person’s mental health, and it brings people together. There have been many posts talking about how much the game has helped people with Depression and Bipolar Disorder who are meaning to actually go outside.

About Pokémon GO

Pokémon Go is a free-to-play location-based augmented reality mobile game developed by Niantic and published by The Pokémon Company. It was released in July 2016 for iOS and Android devices.

The game allows players to capture, battle, and train virtual creatures, called Pokémon, who appear on device screens as though in the real world. It makes use of GPS and the camera of compatible devices. The game is free-to-play, although it supports in-app purchases of additional gameplay items. An optional companion Bluetooth wearable device, the Pokémon Go Plus, is planned for future release and will alert users when Pokémon are nearby.
