Raj Thackeray’s Maharashtra Navnirman Sena or MNS have threatened to vandalise cinemas and block Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, which stars Pakistani actor Fawad Khan. Regarding same a delegation led by Mukesh Bhatt went to meet Rajnath Singh, who assured a “great Diwali” to them with the release of the film.
Bhatt, President of the Film and Television Producers Guild of India, told media here after the meeting: “We came to meet Rajnath Singh because we were scared that law and order in our nation, especially in Mumbai, was getting out of hand.
“We came here to get assurance from the Home Ministry that they will tell chief ministers of all the states to keep the law and order intact, and won’t let ‘Aa Dil Hai Mushkil’ get into trouble when it releases on October 28.”
“He (Rajnath) gave us the assurance that whatever support we want from the government, we will get it. He said he will talk to all the chief ministers and tell them to maintain law and order, and see that there is no violence outside theatres.”
Bhatt says he is assured of being “safe and protected”.
Union Minister Babul Supriyo, a well-known playback singer who also met the Home Minister along with the producers, said: “Producers do understand the sentiment of the nation. MNS cannot have the right to take law in their hands. They have harassed people before.”
Earlier this week, Karan Johar released a video statement declaring “for me, my country comes first. Nothing else matters but my country” and pledged that he will not use Pakistani artists in future projects.
However, the 45-year-old urged, his movie was shot much before tension between India and Pakistan escalated and that any attempts to boycott or blacklist it will affect the large team of people that worked on the movie. “I beseech you to know one thing – that over 300 Indian people in my crew have put their blood, sweat and tears in Ae Dil Hai Mushkil,” he said.
