Akshay Kumar is teaming up with Talaash director Reema Kagti’s Gold based on India’s Olympic gold win as a free nation for the first time at the 1948 Olympics. Akshay Kumar’s tweet about this latest venture with the poster of movie titled Gold, which is set to release in 2018.

The timing of his tweet is perfect when the whole debate about patriotism is brewing in Bollywood circle. The story of Gold is about the country’s first Olympic medal, as shared by Akshay. “Set in 1948, the historic story of India’s first Olympic medal as a free nation, #GOLD coming to you on 15th August 2018!”, he tweeted.

The Indian hockey team, led by Kishan Lal, won the Gold Medal for the fourth consecutive time at the 1948 London Olympics. This was the first time India won an Olympic medal as a free nation.

The movie is produced by Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani’s Excel Entertainment.

Akshay Kumar has earlier given movies like Airlift, Rustom and Baby based on patriotsm. Rustom was released in the Independence Day week this year. The actor’s next film with Neeraj Pandey, Crack, is releasing on Independence Day next year.

Meanwhile, Akshay Kumar is gearing up for the release of his Tamil debut 2.0, the sequel to Thalaivar Rajnikanth’s 2010 science fiction film Enthiran. The Airlift actor is playing the baddie in the film.
