Delhi: One person was killed and several others were left injured after a low-intensity blast took place near Chandni Chowk market in New Delhi on Tuesday morning.

The blast took place in Naya Bazaar area near Chandi Chowk in north Delhi at around 10:30 am, a police officer said adding that the deceased has not been identified yet.

Delhi’s anti-terror wing and Special cell have reached the site of explosion.

The crime and forensic teams have also reached the site of the blast to pick up the samples.

However fire department claimed cylinder blast happened in Naya Bazar, but initial investigation suggests that the blast could be due to a cracker burst. Delhi Police found large amount of explosive material, used in firecrackers, at the spot where the blast took place. The possibility of terror attack has not be ruled out by investigative agencies till now.

Some eyewitness claimed to have seen a man carrying firecrackers in a bag and smoking a beedi right before the blast. The exact reason for the blast is yet to be ascertained. Police is also considering the possibility of a cylinder blast.

Indian Security and Intelligence agencies have been on high alert following reports of major terror attacks by Pakistan-based terror groups post surgical strike by Indian Army in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.
