On 13th December 2001 there was an attack on India’s Citadel of democracy i.e, Parliament. Pak-affiliated terror groups Lashkar-e-Toiba and Jaish-e-Mohammed, the terrorists opened indiscriminate fire that lasted for nearly 30 minutes. The attack claimed the lives of eight security personnel.

Two persons from the Parliament Security Service of the Rajya Sabha, five Delhi Police Personnel and a woman constable of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) laid down their lives while preventing the entry of terrorists inside the Parliament House Building. A gardener of CPWD also lost his life in the attack.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday arrived in Parliament House to pay homage to security personnel who lost their lives during 2001 Parliament attack.

Members of Parliament and leaders from different political parties also paid floral tributes to those who died in the attack. The tributes were paid at the plaque in Parliament House in the morning.

Delhi Police claimed that five militants carried out the attack and the names given by them were Hamza, Haider alias Tufail, Rana, Ranvijay and Mohammed all of whom were killed by the security.

On Dec 15, 2001 Delhi Police picked up Afzal Guru, an alleged member of terrorist outfit Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM), from Jammu and Kashmir for allegedly conspiring and sheltering the militants. He was sentenced to death and hanged on 9th February 2013.
