Kulgam:

Parents in south Kashmir have expressed concern over security and safety of their daughters in school premises after a principal of a local high school in Kulgam allegedly molested a student on Tuesday.

Parents have demand that authorities should provide security to their wards in schools as well as outside the school premises.

Naeema, a worried mother said, a teacher is like a father. Parents trust them blindly when it comes to the security regarding their daughters because “they are the builders of nation.”
“The profession of a teacher is dignified one. Coming to know about rape, assault and molestation by a teacher is heart wrenching for a parent. It shatters our trust as well,” she added.
Another parent, Nishata, who is mother of three minor daughters, said she worries for her daughters in this modern 21st century.
“More the religion enlightens our minds and vision, more is our future driven towards darkness,” she said.

“Though living in modern age, we have proved we can be more inhuman than the beasts. Teachers are protectors of our children. What could be done when a protector himself becomes a predator,” she added.

Calling the molestation, a merciless act, another parent, Mubarak Ahmad requested the authorities to act against those indulging in such immoral acts.
“We should get together, and protest against such inhuman acts and fight for the dignity of our daughters,” he further added.
The parents in Kulgam said, the culprit should be punished as per the law.

The molestation of a student by school principal happened just after one week when two minor girls from Shopian district were allegedly raped by local youth of Kulgam.

Two girls of age 13 and 14 years were allegedly raped by some boys in Kulgam.
“As it was getting dark, the girls who were going home were noticed by the culprits and under the pretext giving them shelter took the girls to two different places and committed rape on them,” locals said.

One of the girls was left in the local Ziyarat of Kulgam after rape during the intervening night of July 25-26. The Awqaf Committee of Kulgam had handed over the girl to police next morning.

The police registered the cases and started their investigation.
Police has arrested six people, including two women after initial investigations.

“We have arrested six people, both the culprits and the ones who provided help to the boys. They (supporters) have been booked under 109,” said a senior police official.
