BENGALURU: A 53-year-old D-group employee of the income tax department allegedly jumped to his death from the sixth floor of the I-T office located in Unity Building near Corporation Circle on Wednesday afternoon. The victim, C Jayaram, did not leave any suicide note.

I-T department:

A resident of Azadnagar in Chamarajpet, Jayaram was an attender with the I-T department. He jumped off the building around 11.45am, police said. He is survived by his wife, son and a college-going daughter.

According to his son, Rudresh J, who works in a private company, Jayaram was worried about his health.”Ours is a happy family and my father was not talkative. He made sure my sister and I got a decent education. It was he who helped me to get a job soon after completing ITI a few years ago,” Rudresh said.

He said his father left home around 9am on Wednesday .”Usually he would leave by 9.30am. He said he had extra work so he left early . The news reached me around noon, when his colleagues called and informed me,” he said.

Jayaram’s colleagues said he had worked with them for over 35 years. “We did not observe anything today , nor was his behaviour different. Jayaram cleared the files from tables, took signatures on important bills and clearance cheques and handed over documents that came through courier and post to officials,” a colleague said.

Police said Jayaram seemed to be depressed. “It is a clear case of suicide. Jayaram himself has opened the lock of the sixth floor,” a cop said.
