Chandigarh: Municipal Corporation Chandigarh on Monday engaged Savita Bhatti, wife of late comedian and film personality Jaspal Bhatti as a brand ambassador for the Swachh Bharat campaign. Bhatti met municipal commissioner Baldep Purushartha on Monday and gave her consent letter to him for the same. While speaking on the issue, Bhatti said she would chalk out a detailed plan to reach the people of the city for creating awareness regarding Swachh Bharat Mission. She said her main focus would be on segregation of waste at the source level, and she would plan ‘nukkar nataks’ and other awareness activities accordingly.
While sharing the awareness plan, Purushartha said MC had planned to organize community activities, including street plays, ‘nukkar nataks’, hand wash fairs, local/ward-level events (including competitions), cleanliness drives, clean city campaigns regarding segregation of waste at source level (with resident welfare associations and market welfare associations), art competitions including logo designing, essay, quiz, painting, and elocution for children, sanitation hackathon, awards, and incentives to wards, RWAs, and local bodies for active participation (Best Toilet, Best Ward, etc).
Further, the MC said they would engage celebrities — who citizens perceive as role models — as brand ambassadors in awareness drives, sanitation/eco-clubs in schools/colleges/institutions/youth associations (Swachhta Committees), display at public libraries and other public places, quarterly meetings with RWAs, religious leaders, self-help groups (SHGs), and MWAs etc.
Swachh Bharat Mission
The MC will work on Swachh Bharat Mission in collaboration with prominent business organizations such as hotels, hospitals, and markets, to organize conclaves, events, and competitions among them. Internal campaigns run by government offices, such as ‘Clean Employee of the Month’ and ‘Best Driver’ will also be organized during the campaign exercise.
