Milind Soman has been in the news for running barefoot from Ahmedabad to Mumbai — a distance of 570 km. But now he has company from none other than his 76-year-old mother, Usha Soman who joined him in the last leg of the marathon.
Usha Soman, dressed in sari, ran barefoot just like her son and effortlessly matched his pace becoming his perfect running partner. The video of her running beside her son near Manor, in Thane district, went viral after it was shared on Facebook. At this age she is setting an excellent example that fitness is not limited to age factor. You can be active and fit at any age.
The former professor has surprised us with her physical strength before in 2014 when she participated in a marathon where she ran 100 kilometres in less than 48 hours.
The video has gone viral within a day of being posted and it was viewed nearly 350,000 times, with close to 5,000 shares. And the numbers will surely rise.
The two-week long marathon will end on Thursday, 4 August, in Mumbai. Soman has himself covered the 570-kms distance from Ahemdabad to Mumbai twice in the past.
“It took me 15 days to complete it the first time, 11 days the next, and 8 days this time. The difference, however, is that the road has changed a lot,” he stated
Meanwhile Milind Soman is in the process of launching running light weight sarees for women who do not feel comfortable running in conventional sports wear. Looks like Usha Soman is the inspiration behind this innovation.
