A TOTAL of 10 FIRs were registered against unknown people for bursting firecrackers violating the prohibitory orders issued by the District Magistrate, Chandigarh, on the instructions of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, which restricted the use of fireworks on any other day except for Diwali for three hours between 6.30 pm and 9.30 pm. The FIRs registered on Tuesday night. FIRs registered on the complaints of several police personnel deputed to do routine patrolling.
Firecrackers bursting
Police officials said the complaints about bursting of firecrackers started pouring in around 9 pm and continued till 11.55 pm. Sub-Inspector Kehar Singh of Sector 19 police station received information that unknown people were bursting firecrackers in the residential area in Sector 19-A around 9.15 pm. It wasthe first FIR which registered at the Sector 19 police station.
Head Constable Krishan Chander of Sector 39 police station complained that he received information about the bursting of firecrackers near Gurdwara Sahib at Butterla village, Sector 41, around 9 pm and lodged an FIR at the Sector 39 police station. The last FIR registered around 11.55 pm when Head Constable Surinder Singh lodged an FIR stating that he received information about bursting of crackers at the light point of Sector 36 and Sector 36. The FIR registered at the Sector 39 police station. Other FIRs registered at Sector 26 police station and Maloya police station. Sources in the police control room said, “The majority of complaints about the use of fireworks were received from the thick populated areas, including villages and colonies situated within the city and in the outer areas.”

Three teams under the supervision of Sub-Divisional Magistrates have constituted by the UT Administration to ensure that the Punjab and Haryana High Court’s orders on the cracker-bursting limit isfollowed in letter and spirit on Thursday. The teams comprising seven officials have allotted various areas. Information will sent to the police department immediately as and when the violation detected. In Panchkula, although no FIR registered, the sound of fireworks observed from different parts, including sectors 6, 7 and 4. Loud noise of fireworks observed around 6.05 pm and it continued till late in the night. DCP (Panchkula) Manbir Singh said that instructions issued to all SHOs to lodge FIRs against people who caught bursting firecrackers except on Diwali between 6.30 pm and 9.30 pm.
