NEW DELHI: Shares of Tata SteelBSE 3.18 % (Rs 125.50 crore) were hogging the limelight in Monday’s early trade as it hit fresh 52-week high of Rs 595 and emerged as the most active stock in terms of value on NSE ahead of its first quarter results to be announced later in the day.

The stock was followed by HPCLBSE 4.40 % (Rs 110.68 crore), Reliance IndustriesBSE -0.16 % (Rs 69.71 crore), Indian OilBSE 2.80 % Corp (Rs 56.28 crore), Hero MotoCorp (Rs 53.88 crore), ICICI BankBSE 2.01 % (Rs 52.60 crore), BPCLBSE 1.43 % (Rs 51.57 crore), YES BankBSE -0.13 % (Rs 49.48 crore), HDFC (Rs 45.13 crore), Maruti SuzukiBSE 1.08 % (Rs 44.22 crore), Bajaj FinanceBSE 3.75 % (Rs 43.14 crore), State Bank of IndiaBSE 0.83 % (Rs 41.19 crore), Axis BankBSE -0.34 % (Rs 37.72 crore),

Mahindra & Mahindra (Rs 37.56 crore) and TitanBSE -1.05 % Company (Rs 35.78 crore).

Positive global cues and strong buying in metal, banking and realty stocks helped markets gain positive momentum.

However, selling in IT and FMCG stocks cooled off markets a bit.

IT majors including InfosysBSE -1.21 %, Tata Consultancy ServicesBSE -1.40 % (TCSBSE -1.40 %) and WiproBSE -0.40 % were trading in red.

Tata Steel (up 2.75 per cent), ICICI Bank (up 1.60 per cent), Hero MotoCorp (up 1.12 per cent), Sun PharmaBSE 0.40 % (up 1.07 per cent), GailBSE 0.83 % (up 1.05 per cent), Vedanta (up 0.88 per cent), HindalcoBSE -0.07 % (up 0.87 per cent) and Bajaj AutoBSE 0.01 % (up 0.85 per cent) were the top gainers in Nifty50 chart during early session.

However, NTPCBSE -0.42 % (down 1.41 per cent), Tata Consultancy Services (down 1.26 per cent), Hindustan UnileverBSE -0.65 % (down 1.00 per cent), Asian PaintsBSE -0.90 % (down 0.92 per cent), Infosys (down 0.89 per cent), Ambuja CementsBSE 0.27 % (down 0.74 per cent) and CiplaBSE -0.71 % (down 0.68 per cent) were the top losers.

Benchmark Nifty50 index was 2 points down at 10,064, while the 30-share Sensex was 3 points up at 32,328 around 10 am (IST).

In the Nifty50 pack, 24 stocks were trading in green, while 26 stocks were in red.

On BSE, 1,187 stocks were advancing whereas 689 stocks were lagging.
