Indian Institute of Science ranked 6th in 2016 BRICS QS rankings

IISc

The QS University Rankings 2016 for BRICS countries (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) is out. The Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bangalore is the only university to feature in the top ten list. The institute’s ranking has dipped from #5 in 2015 to #6 in 2016.

In 2015, Indian universities took 31 of the 200 available places — or 15.5 per cent. This year, it was 44 out of 250 or 17.6 per cent. However, India managed to bring eight universities in the top 50, a number same as Russia and a step up than Brazil.

The top five places were grabbed by Chinese institutions, with India’s IISc, Bengaluru , coming in on sixth, a place down from 2015. The prestigious IITs , from Bombay, Delhi and Madras also came in the top 20 spots. IIT Kharagpur drops out of the top 20. It is now ranked 24th.
