External affairs minister Sushma Swaraj is suffering from kidney failure and is on dialysis at AIIMS.  “Presently, I am on dialysis. I am undergoing tests for a Kidney transplant. Lord Krishna will bless,” Swaraj said in a tweet on Wednesday.

“Her condition is stable. Her history of chronic diabetes has affected her kidney functioning. She is on dialysis,” PTI reported quoting sources at AIIMS.

She was admitted to AIIMS on November 7 and is being monitored by a team of doctors. Swaraj is admitted at the cardio-neuro centre under the supervision of Balram Airan, chief of the Cardio Thoracic Centre. She has been suffering from diabetes for almost 20 years.

Describing her as one of the best speakers in parliament, Congress leader Ambika Sonia said: “She is an iconic leader for women. We wish her speedy recovery and hope she comes back soon and does what she does best…make the house listen with pin drop silence.”

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah were among the first to respond to her tweet and wish her well.

The 64-year-old BJP leader was admitted to AIIMS in April also when she underwent treatment for pneumonia and other health issues.
