Calling Imran Khan characterless, Ayesha Gulalai accused him of sending lewd text messages to her and other women in the party.
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) MNA Ayesha Gulalai resigned from the party on Tuesday while levelling serious allegations on party chief Imran Khan.
Calling Khan characterless, Gulalai accused him of sending lewd text messages to her and other women in the party. She made the announcement moments before the election of the country’s new prime minister.
Announcing to quit the party, she said, “My integrity matters to me the most” and “I cannot compromise when it comes to my honour and dignity.”
“Women workers are not respected in the PTI and a respectable woman worker cannot remain in the party,” she told DawnNews.
PTI’s chief whip Shireen Mazari, however, claimed that the allegations are false and baseless and Imran Khan respects all women workers. She said that Gulalai was disgruntled after being denied a party ticket in the upcoming General Election and hence launched personal attack against the party chief.
Hours after resigning from the party, Gulalai addressed a press conference and rubbished Mazari’s claims. Gulalai readily denied that she wanted a ticket to contest the General Election from NA-1 constituency.
She also leveled charges of corruption against PTI government in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and its Chief Minister Pervez Khattak who she alleged was acting like “mafia boss”.
Gulalai was elected to the National Assembly on a reserved seat for women from the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (Fata), and has been a staunch and vocal supporter of the PTI and Khan. She resigned from both her party membership and NA seat.
