Salman Khan began his philanthropic work through his NGO. He set up the Being Human Foundation in a bid to contribute to the society. Salman’s charity has helped many underpriviledged people across the country.

The Foundation now faces blacklisting by the BMC as it has failed to set up concessional dialysis units over a year after it was assigned the project. In December 2016, BMC had decided to start 12 Dialysis centers which would be equipped to perform 10,000 procedures each month. The agreement based on a Public-Private Partnership with Salman Khan’s Being Human Foundation was made. According to it, the civic body would provide the space for each facility whereas Being Human would be responsible for hiring staff and maintenance of the centers. Being Human Foundation was supposed to set up 24 dialysis machines at a facility in Pali Hill.

“Being Human, which was shortlisted for running the dialysis centre at Bandra (West), had paid the bank guarantee and was granted all the necessary permissions to go ahead with the project. But with the project not taking off, we have issued them a show-cause notice warning that they would be blacklisted,” said an official. The NGO was aware of a possible blacklisting.

A show cause notice has been issued by the civic body which has also forfeited Being Human’s deposit. A representative from Being Human Foundation told the leading daily, “The Being Human Foundation has certain mandatory requirements which need to be included in contracts. There were discussions around those which ultimately did not materialise. There was no formal contract/MoU signed at all.”
